What is Nature Cure?
Just as plants need fertile soil and nutrients to thrive, our bodies need the appropriate conditions to be healthy.
The MIC Nature Cure and Hydrotherapy Clinic’s top priority is to promote the ideal conditions for your body and mind to thrive.
What happens when blood and lymph no longer flow sufficiently throughout the body? The organism no longer is able to sustain life and dies. Life is dependent on the proper flow of blood that delivers oxygen and nutrients to the cells of the body along it’s route and also has the vital job of removing waste products of cell metabolism, namely carbon dioxide.
When the body’s basic physiologic and biochemical processes are disrupted, this is when diseases can make its appearance and the body is vulnerable. We get sick. We feel sluggish. Our minds and memory are foggy. We begin to feel various aches and pains in our joints and muscles. Colds and flus linger for weeks and months. We just feel horrible.
What might be contributing to these symptoms?
At the most basic level, all human beings need certain things to survive—clean air, food, water, movement, sleep, detoxification and waste elimination, companionship, genetic expression, among others. These are the foundations for health, and just for being human! Naturopathic medicine calls these the Determinants of Health.
When any one of these is deficient or suboptimal for long enough, and our bodies begin to give us signs that something is wrong. We get sick and disease can take hold. Symptoms are our hints that something is not right and something needs to change.
At the Nature Cure and Hydrotherapy Center, we address diseases and symptoms short term, but long term, the foundational aspects of health, the terrain of your body, is our top priority to ensure that health becomes your new normal.
Constitutional hydrotherapy promotes detoxification by improving movement of blood and lymph, promoting proper immune function, and improving digestion and assimilation of the food you eat.
The treatment involves using alternating hot and cold towels applied to the bare chest, abdomen and back in addition to gentle electric muscle stimulation.
Several applications of contrast hydrotherapy are used together to initiate a “push-pull” effect on blood and lymph.
Hot applications using towels soaked in hot water are used to open the blood vessels and draw blood to the surface of the skin, open the pores of the skin, and to induce sweating.
Cold applications using towels soaked in cold water induces a flux of blood from the surface of the skin into the core of the body and vital organs. This cold towel is then warmed by the recirculation of blood back to the surface of the skin.
Electrical muscle stimulation causes contraction of both abdominal muscles, back muscles, and smooth muscle of the digestive system to further amplify the effects of contrast hydrotherapy.
Throughout this process, you will remain covered with a wool or Velux blanket, with the exception of when towels are changed, which helps to retain heat and repel water to prevent the towels from drying and also encourages a small fraction of water from the towels to be absorbed through the skin.
Constitutional hydrotherapy is very safe and has been an important therapy for promoting health in naturopathic medicine, and it can be a valuable therapy alone or in addition to other treatments to help you feel better, feel less pain, and decrease overall inflammation.
