Dr. Kwan of MIC, believes that behind every successful exercise program is a highly motivating factor, goal, or personal trainer. Living in this technologically advanced day and age, has caused us to shift much or our attention and time to our iPhones, iPads, and laptops to name a few. This deficiency in attention and time has makes our health promoting activities, nothing more than an afterthought.
A 2008 meta-analysis of pedometer-based walking interventions and weight loss, indicated that on average, participants lost 0.05 kg (0.11 lbs) per week during the intervention. Longer programs observed more weight loss than shorter programs, where the study had interventions lasting from 4 weeks to 1 year.
Figure 4 by Richardson, et al, indicates weight loss over time. Negative values indicate a loss in weight.
Coupled with lifestyle, dietary, stress counseling and Naturopathic care. Dr. Kwan is positive that everyone can drastically improve the quality of their lives. If weight loss is a side effect of changing your life now… Who can really complain?
"My hope is to find the obstacles that impede our innate capacity to bolster and heal our bodies. Whether it is with an alarm, a reminder from a friend, a string tied around the finger, or with a Fitbit pedometer. I want to start taking back control of our lives and live as Mother Nature intended us, to run, to play, to interact with our loved ones, to outstretch our arms and breathe in this privilege we call “life. To freely live not by that which so easily rewards, but to work hard for what you truly deserve”
